T20 Season-Long World Cup Fantasy Cricket now available on W Fansports

The tournament will take place on the relatively neutral ground of UAE and Oman, meaning only the plucky outsiders Oman will see any home advantage.

Therefore, we probably have the fairest and most open tournament ever seen, but who can take advantage? It’s been 5 long years since the last World Cup, when a Marlon Samuels inspired West Indies took the trophy.

India are favourites this time around, with Australia and England tucked in close behind. One thing’s for sure, we’re going to see some serious action over the next month, and W Fansports have just the way to add even more excitement.

Here at W Fansports we’ll be running two huge season-long tournaments, with a record breaking €5k guarantee in the big one and just a €10 entry. For those more comfortable with a small buy-in, we also have a €2 entry contest with a €1K guaranteed prize pool.

We’re seriously excited to see that our cricket participation has continued to grow throughout September, and the T20 World Cup is where we kick this into overdrive.

The tournament runs from 17th October through to 14th November, so you’ve just over 10 days to pick those all important lineups.

Let’s walk through the rules of the season long game, which can also be viewed via our support pages and the above graphic:

Game Rules and Scoring Rules

  • The season long game will follow our traditional cricket format. 11 players must be selected, with a minimum of 1 wicket keeper, 1 all rounder, 3 batsmen and 3 bowlers.
  • A maximum of 4 players can be selected from each participating country.
  • Each gameweek you’ll select a captain that scores double points, with your vice-captain scoring double if the captain doesn’t play.
  • Our Safety Net feature is active for this contest (read more here)
  • There will be no player price changes during the tournament.
  • If a game is abandoned after officially starting, any points earned by your players will be retained.
  • Our traditional T20 scoring system will be used (see below)
  • ‘Super Overs’ in the event of a tied match will not count towards scoring.

The Tournament Specifics

The T20 World Cup has a quirky format, but we’ve simplified it as much as possible to ensure a fun tournament for all levels of cricketing knowledge.

A full explanation of the tournament format can be found here on the ICC website.

The season-long game will be split into five gameweeks, and you’ll be able to make moves during those gameweeks as follows:

Gameweek 1

  • Gets underway 17th October at 11am BST. You have until that point to select lineups. Only players involved in Round 1 (8 nations) will be available for selection.
  • Once the tournament starts you’ll have a wildcard to use during that first gameweek in preparation for the Super 12s, when 8 of the bigger cricketing nations will join the tournament.
  • The team budget will rise from 70m to 100m at this point to enable you to fit those big name players in on your wildcard.
  • Late registration will be available during the first gameweek.
  • Users entering during Late Registration will start scoring points in Gameweek 2 and will start on 90% of the average score gained by teams entered prior to gameweek 1.
  • Deadline for both wildcards and Late Registration teams will be 90-minutes prior to start of Gameweek 2.

Gameweek 2

  • Gets underway with the start of the Super 12’s, and covers the first 16 fixtures of the Super 12’s.
  • During Gameweek 2 you’ll be able to make 3 transfers in preparation for Gameweek 3.

Gameweek 3

  • Gets underway from 1st November and covers the last 14 matches of the Super 12’s.
  • During this week you’ll have a wildcard to use in preparation for the semi finals in Gameweek 4.

Gameweek 4

  • Covers the Semi Finals
  • No more transfers here – you’ll only be able to change captain and vice-captain at this point in preparation for Gameweek 5.

Gameweek 5

  • The Final.

So there you have it, one super simple season-long tournament to get your teeth into! We’ll be running satellites and competitions to win season-long seats over the next 10 days, so keep your eyes peeled.
