The accident took place on the A-52 highway in Zamora, where the vehicle Jota was in reportedly suffered a tire blowout during an overtaking maneuver. The car lost control, left the road, and caught fire. Both Diogo Jota and his younger brother sadly lost their lives in the devastating crash.
In memory of his contributions, Liverpool FC has made the decision to retire his jersey number, ensuring that No. 20 will never be worn by another player at the club again. The club made the announcement after speaking with Jota’s wife and family, who fully supported the tribute.
