Arsenal suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in a pre-season clash at the Hong Kong Festival of Football 2025, held at Kai Tak Sports Park on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
The only goal of the match came from Pape Matar Sarr, securing a win for Spurs in this highly anticipated North London derby.
Despite the loss, Arsenal dominated much of the game, controlling 57% possession and recording 16 shot attempts, though only 1 was on target. Tottenham, on the other hand, managed just 6 attempts, also with only 1 on target, but they made theirs count.
Speaking after the match, Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino acknowledged the team’s overall performance but pointed to poor finishing as the reason behind the defeat. “We played well, but our final touches weren’t enough,” he said.
With the Premier League season approaching, Arsenal will need to sharpen their attack and improve their finishing if they hope to start strong in 2025/26.
